Current Projects

under roof and awaiting stairs and handrails

We are currently paused and waiting for the excavator, Cleveland’s Earthworks, to complete the finish grade work around the porch. Once he is finished, we can construct the stairs and handrail and cap another fine design/build project. Over the past several weeks though, we have installed the beautiful tigerwood porch flooring, bead-board ceiling, PermaCast period columns, cedar siding, Windsor-one trim, and custom louver panels to underpin the porch between the masonry piers. JV Telling, of Telling Roofing, was also helpful in installing the Englert metal standing seam roofing.

tigerwood stairs

With a little help from Derek installing the rough-in stair framing and skirt and riser trim, Andrew then took it upon himself to shape and install the tigerwood stair treads. Below is a step-by-step pictorial of the process.

before and framing

Once the old kitchen was packed up, Jeremy and Doug made quick work of removing any sign it ever existed. Temporary walls were then constructed to support the 2nd floor while we removed the only bearing wall and replaced it with a laminated beam. This was necessary to open up the floor plan and make for a much better flow through the new spaces.

handrail and landscape completion

Having the stairs completed made for easy access installing the handrails. Jeremy and Andrew worked together and skillfully fitted the fir handrail components together which makes the new porch safe and finished. Painting weather will most certainly be welcome so that we may put a final coat on this historic home’s new facade.

walls and floor

Jeremy, Doug, and Andrew were on hand to hang the sheetrock with Andrew opting to handle the taping and finishing himself. Brinkley’s painting followed close behind to spray a primer coat on everything and a finish coat on the ceiling. Don Thomas, of Thomas Installations, was then selected to install the Schluter Ditra-heat tile underlayment and heating system. Once the heating cable was in place and tested, Don then began setting the tile in a modified pinwheel pattern. Everyone loves the results.

cabinetry, countertops, and trim

Once again we are happy to showcase the work of Donny Campbell, who, with his father and sons, run the family business of Walker’s Creek Cabinet Works. They do a tremendous job of delivering and installing an impeccable custom cabinet. Capitol Granite followed closely behind to template, fabricate, and install the owner’s hand-picked soapstone counters. Andrew and Jeremy worked alongside these crews, steadily completing the detailed trim work.

finishing touches

We are pleased to wrap another design-build project and our clients couldn’t be happier with the results. Below are several photos from our final days at Tall Oaks.

framing

Snow and mud has slowed us down just a bit, but such is construction life in the mountain winter. Work continues on the new loft framing…

many hands make light work

We are happy to invite and introduce a few more talented builders into helping this project along: David Stott and Jonathan Kuntz. Each have worked with us before and proven themselves very valuable. David and his crew will see to the installation of some siding and exterior trim, and Jonathan will work his craft at rehabilitating some old doors for installation in new jambs and various other trim details.

Just a few more days and the insulation will be installed, closing this house in from the elements once again.
